In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, sickle cell disease patients, their caregivers, and their physicians are challenged to find ways to avoid hospital visits, manage acute pain crises at home, and continue care in the face of potential blood shortages. We explore just some of the ways COVID-19 is impacting these patients who rely on frequent encounters with hospitals, emergency rooms and physician offices.
